Great write up. I like the way you worded it when you said, "masculinity is a performance, not a presence."

Solid article. Pause has been a word I have been re-evaluating in my vocabulary. I feel like, culturally, we have let homophobic and misogynistic rhetoric embed itself in our language and it’s time we evolve beyond that.

As someone who is of the Queer community and had no idea this was a thing now. I have a word…”WOW”. I remember being made fun of and guys yelling “suck it” at me, but because I was effeminate immediately yell right after, “NO HOMO.” I sometimes wonder how those guys are doing now? Lol. It’s really sad that in our community we are still so segregated by sexuality and have such polarizing views on it sometimes. Why do you think this is such a hurdle for us in the Black community? Is it religious? Is it colonialism? Is it just our undying human instinct to not want to be on the bottom? Probably a combination but I’m here the conversation! Haha

Boo those muggles, and hopefully, life events helped them become less ignorant. I legit think it's a byproduct of unhealthy imagery and stereotypes. Also, how feminine is valued less than masculinity. It would have been different if more appreciation and care for women existed. I believe it is a hurdle because it is an easy thing to grab, because of how weaponized religious ideology is and is used to control how Muggles think and operate.

Good take here, how you feel about LGBTQ+ folks who say Pause?

I get confused by it. A few people from that community, whom I’ve asked about using the word, have said it’s them trying to take power back, but I don’t believe in that when it comes to words. Once a word or phrase is created with harmful intent, it is rare to be able to remove that negative energy from it.
